Introduction
We at the Company believe that electronic privacy is crucial for the ongoing success of the Internet as a self-governing service, commercial, and entertainment medium. So, unless you designate otherwise, the information you enter here will be known to only two parties: you and the Company.

While we will strive to deliver content and advertising that are specifically relevant to you, our pledge is that the Company will not release your personal data to anyone else without your consent.

You may change the status of whether you wish to receive the Company's offers and communications at any time by editing your profile.

When we present information to our advertisers, unless you tell us otherwise, it is in the form of aggregate statistics compiled among all of our users' answers to survey questions as well as grouped on-site behavior.

From time to time, the Company may introduce new products and services to its users. To the extent these new products and services affect this policy, these changes will be posted on our home page so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, you will be notified of these updates by email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

The Website also contains links to other sites. The Company is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content on such sites.

Information the Company Gathers

Use of Traffic Data
Each time a visitor comes to the Website, we collect some information to improve the overall quality of the online experience. The Company collects the visitor's domain name (e.g., whether the user is logged on from ibm.com or yale.edu), referral data (e.g., we record the address of the last URL a user visited prior to clicking through to the Website), and browser and platform type (e.g., a Netscape browser on a Macintosh platform).

The Company collects visitor information for purposes of product monitoring, product improvement, and targeted advertising.

We also count, track, and aggregate the visitor's activity into our analysis of general traffic flows at our Website (e.g. tracking where traffic comes from, how traffic flows within the Website, etc.). To these ends, we may merge information about you into group data into log files, which may then be shared on an aggregated basis with our advertisers; but the Company will not disclose your individual identity or personal data without your permission. The log files generated will not have personally identifiable information. When the Company does present aggregated information to outside companies, no one will be able to identify you or contact you.

Use of Cookies
The Company's Websites use cookies to store member names and passwords, site personalization information, and to track advertising. Cookies are a standard Internet technology that allow us to both store and retrieve login information on a user's system. Our Web server automatically asks a new user whether his or her browser will agree to accept a Company cookie file. The user has a choice whether or not to accept this cookie by configuring this option in the browser. If a visitor accepts, our Web server will identify the user's cookie for the Company's use in internal reporting or, in the case of a Website member, for site personalization. If a user accepts a Company cookie, but would later like to remove it from their computer, they can follow the removal instructions found at our cookie information page here.

We may from time to time use outside ad companies to display ads on our site. These ads may contain cookies. While we use cookies in other parts of our Website, cookies received with banner ads are collected by our ad company, and we do not have access to this information. Some customer data is shared with the advertising companies, but only in aggregate form.

Third Party Cookies
In the course of serving advertisements to this site, our third-party advertiser may place or recognize a unique "cookie" on your browser.

Use of Personal Information from Membership Registration
We collect personal information from visitors who voluntarily agree to join our Website.

We require detailed information as noted in BOLD in the registration process in order to authenticate and track the sales process.

By joining as a registered member, a user has the option to receive a variety of special mailings, including email marketing communications announcing new product-related features and special promotions.

Email addresses collected via feedback forms, employment applications, affiliates application and other forms are required so that we can reply to them.

Use of Email Addresses Collected From Quarterly Newsletter Subscriptions
By default, a user is signed up to receive a Quarterly newsletter by email. Users will start receiving the Website content newsletter delivered on a quarterly basis, as well as occasional product-related announcements. We collect subscribers' email addresses in order to distribute those newsletters and product-related announcements.

Other Circumstances
We collect your name and email address when you report errors or leave feedback so that we can respond to your question. We collect your contact details (such as name and mailing address) in our affiliates program form so that we can contact you. Information that you send in to our email addresses (ie. webrequest@bookdirect.com) will be viewed only by the appropriate parties and will not be distributed internally or externally.

The Company's Policy on Sharing Information it Gathers

Demographic Information
When we do present information to our advertisers, it is in the form of grouped statistics compiled from all our participating users' answers to survey questions and on-site behavior. The Company will not disclose the contact or demographic information of any individual user or member to advertisers or any other outside organization without the express permission of the individual.

Membership Research
On occasion, the Company will make available to potential advertisers and research firms aggregated results from research it has conducted on its Website Membership base. Once again, the Company will only provide such demographic information on an aggregated basis and does not disclose individual member profiles without user consent.

If you do choose to allow the Company to share your personally identifiable information with reputable outside organizations, and you later decide to unsubscribe, the Company will make every effort to remove your information from the list we share with other sources promptly following your unsubscribe request. However, the Company is not responsible for the removal of your personal information from third-party lists if you have previously authorized the Company to distribute it.

Security Measures
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Internally, employees are notified of our privacy policy upon hire. Access to the data is restricted to those that are required to analyze it, and require password entry. Our web security is reviewed both externally and internally on a monthly basis to ensure that we maintain a high level of security.
